Warming up dinner "Viva Mexico"

Hi mates!
The last 15 of September, at night, was the Bicentennial Mexican Party. The venue was at Cubana restaurant. All the members of MLAS plus friends from Argentine, Chile, Cuba, Great Britain, Spain and other countries were there. During the party, the people enjoyed the sound, the nice food and the noise. During the celebration, Lorena Preciado, as president of MLAS gave the typical EL GRITO DE INDEPENDENCIA (Independence Scream Call). This scream is a legacy from the priest Miguel Hidalgo when he started the rebellion at the early morning of the 16 of September, 1810. All world screamed, Viva!, with each name of the Independence Heros.The party was well carried out.

The old and elegant 34 Trippet Lane building was the perfect place to commemorate this legacy. Thanks to Cubanas for all the facilities.

Bicentennial of Mexican Independence

The University of Sheffield through the Mexican and Latin American Society (MLAS) was designated as the host for the Bicentennial Celebation of the Mexican Independence for UK. BE WELCOME!

Traditional BBQ party, Saturday 31 July 2010

The last 31 of July, the traditional BBQ party was carried on at Encliffe Park. Most of the MLAS members attended to the event with their families. During the BBQ the people enjoyed the nice weather, and good chats. Everybody developed theirs "best skills" to start a fire for each one of the BBQ boxes -it was embarrasing, but fortunatly the presence of the boy scouts was not necessary. The air carries up the scent of the well cooked food. It was nice to see happy faces and hear the laugh of all the people. In addition, everybody enjoyed Oscar Preciado's beans, his famous Frijoles Maleados -really delicious! We hope that you have spent a good time. See you next time.

VIII Symposium of Mexican Students

The VIII Symposium of Mexican students was carried on the 2nd day of July at the University of Manchester. This event had the participation of distinguished personalities as the Mexican Ambassador Lic. Eduardo Medina Mora; the head of CONACyT Maestro Juan Carlos Romero Hicks, and his staff. Also, Yoloxochitl Bustamante, Director of the National Politecnic Institute. The Symposium was inagurated by Professor Colin Bailey, Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Manchester. Several Mexican students from the University of Sheffield participated in several and wide interesting topics. The diferents committees of mexican students around all UK were present. The event was well organized by the Mexican committee at the University of Manchester. WELL DONE!

Football Southampton 2010, 3th place for MLAS Sheffield

The last 15th of May. The Mexican and Latin American Society Football team got the 3th place in the Football Tournament 2010 at the University of Southampton. WELL DONE! It means that we have a good league. The 1st place was for the University of Cambridge and the 2nd place for the Imperial College.

International Cultural Evening

The last 24rd of April (2010) was carried out the International Cultural Evening at The University of Sheffield, in the Octagon Centre. The Mexican and Latin American Society (MLAS) participated as usual. The choreographic ballet of MLAS showed typical dances from Mexico and Latin America that were well appreciated and broadly appaluded by the spectators from several nationalities. The Octagon Centre has a capacity for 1600 spectators.

Farewell-Welcome party 2010

The last 23rd of April (2010) was carried out a Farewell-Welcome party at the El Abuelo Restaurant to celebrate the change of committees. During the party, the members of the salient committee 2009-10 were applauded due to their well directions during their period. The committee 2009-10 won an award from the Union of Students of the University of Sheffield as the BEST SOCIETY during the period 2009-2010. In the party, the new committee 2010-11 received a friendly welcome and best wishes from the members of the last committee.
